Christina Ricci is back in the horror genre with brand new movie Monstrous, which is now available in select theaters and On Demand as of today, Friday the 13th of May 2022!

Christina Ricci toplines the horror movie Monstrous, which marks the return of The Lost, All Cheerleaders Die and I Know Who Killed Me director Chris Sivertson.

In the film, “Laura (Christina Ricci), traumatized by an abusive relationship, finally runs away from her former husband with her seven-year-old son Cody. But in their new, idyllic and remote sanctuary, they find they have another, bigger and more terrifying monster to deal with…one that will test both their mental health issues to the limit.”

Chatting with Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew Podcast this week, Ricci dives deep into Monstrous while also teasing the return of “Yellowjackets” and her upcoming reunion with Tim Burton in “Wednesday,” Netflix’s live action series set in the world of The Addams Family!

“On the surface it starts like a traditional horror film, and then what is revealed… ultimately it’s a story about somebody in really intense pain. And somebody having response to a real horror in their life and sort of their trauma response. And it ends up being a really heartbreaking piece,” Ricci teases Monstrous, now available On Demand.

Ricci continues, “I love that smart connection… that horror is a manifestation of psychological and emotional pain.”

As for “Yellowjackets” Season 2, Christina Ricci says the plan is to start filming the new episodes in late summer of this year, and she’s excited to find out what Misty gets up to next.

“I don’t know what she’s gonna be doing, I don’t know anything about the season. I would assume she goes after Natalie but I’m not sure. I don’t know,” Ricci notes. “I’m just really excited. I just want to know what I get to do. The character is so fun. It’s usually pretty insane.”

Also coming soon, Ricci re-teams with Tim Burton on “Wednesday,” the first time the two have worked together since Sleepy Hollow back in 1999. Ricci is expected to play a new character in the upcoming series, with Jenna Ortega playing the role of Wednesday Addams.

“Tim is so great. He’s such a genius and his work is so incredible. What is wonderful about working with Tim Burton is that no matter what he says, you’re just like, ‘Okay sure, we’re doing that. I’ll do that.’ You completely put yourself in his hands and do whatever he wants. And it comes out brilliant. And that is a lovely, fun feeling,” Ricci explains.

“Yellowjackets” DVD Release Set for Summer 2022

“Yellowjackets” Season 2 Teased by Showrunners; Harsh Winter Horrors Await

This coming Friday the 13th brings a new adaptation of Stephen King ’s novel Firestarter  from Universal, Blumhouse, and director  Keith Thomas  ( The   Vigil ).

In  Firestarter , “For more than a decade, parents Andy and Vicky have been on the run, desperate to hide their daughter Charlie from a shadowy federal agency that wants to harness her unprecedented gift for creating fire into a weapon of mass destruction.

“Andy has taught Charlie how to defuse her power, which is triggered by anger or pain. But as Charlie turns 11, the fire becomes harder and harder to control. After an incident reveals the family’s location, a mysterious operative is deployed to hunt down the family and seize Charlie once and for all. Charlie has other plans.”

In the new remake,  Ryan Kiera Armstrong  plays the lead girl, Charlie, and  Zac Efron  plays her father, Andy.

The twelve-year-old Armstrong has already earned an impressive list of credits, including horror with  IT Chapter Two  and “American Horror Story.” While Efron took a dark turn as Ted Bundy in  Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile ,  Firestarter  marks the more tenured actor’s first feature role in horror.

Ahead of  Firestarter ’s release, Bloody Disgusting spoke with Armstrong and Efron about Efron’s first foray into the genre and what advice the young actor might’ve given her co-star to help him prepare. The pair also discusses their mutual fear of clowns, thanks to Pennywise, and how they developed their bond to portray their onscreen father-daughter relationship.

The new reimagining of King’s novel was written by  Scott Teems  (Halloween Kills) and also stars  Sydney Lemmon ,  Michael Greyeyes  ( Blood Quantum ), and  Gloria Reuben  ( Lincoln , “Mr. Robot”).  Firestarter  is produced by Jason Blum ( Halloween  2018,  The Invisible Man ) for Blumhouse and Oscar® winner Akiva Goldsman ( I Am Legend ,  Constantine ) for Weed Road Pictures.

Firestarter  arrives in theaters and  Peacock  on  May 13, 2022 .
