END OF THE ROAD (2022) Queen Latifah as Brenda and Chris Bridges as Reggie. Cr: Ursula Coyote/NETFLIX

We have an action-thriller coming to Netflix this weekend in End of the Road. Is the movie worth watching? I share my thoughts on the film, below, to help you decide if you should check out the movie this weekend or skip it!

End of the Road is an action-thriller that follows Brenda (Queen Latifah) and her family on a cross-country road trip that turns into a nightmare. The film is directed by Millicent Shelton and also stars and Ludacris.

We find out that Brenda’s husband passed away and it has put a strain on the family, which has caused her to uproot the family and move them across the country to Texas. Brenda hopes this serves as a fresh start for her and the kids. Joining them on this road trip, is Brenda’s brother Reggie (Ludacris).

While at a gas station, a couple of country boys make some perverted comments toward Brenda, and she flips them off as they leave. However, these boys don’t take it well as they chase the family down in a car. Causing a face-to-face battle.

The family moves past the situation only to come across another one at the hotel they are staying in. On the road, an unknown number calls Brenda asking for their money, but she has no clue what they are talking about. Once she gets off the phone, she realizes Reggie has stolen some cash.

The movie was a little more intense than I expected, even though it was an action thriller. With our cast, I was anticipating the script to rely on some comedy, but it didn’t and I was more than okay with it.

One of the more impressive things about the movie is David Loughery’s writing. Throughout the film, they place lines that come back later to tie the story together, and it all makes sense. Some twists and turns remind me of his script earlier this year in Shattered. It was an independent film that I enjoyed. Loughery does a great job keeping us guessing here.

I don’t think Queen Latifah gets enough credit for being as good an actress as she is. She doesn’t just kick ass and take names in the movie, but she acts her butt off in it. I loved her in this movie and Ludacris played the perfect sidekick to her with a side of comedy relief.

Overall, End of the Road is a very good action-thriller that will not disappoint you. I highly recommend checking this one out when it streams on Netflix.

End of the Road hits Netflix on Friday, September 9.
