Apple recently released tvOS 15.6 update for Apple TV with general performance and stability improvements.

However, in lieu of enhancing the general performance, Apple TV might have overlooked the proper management of the remote volume functionality.

Ever since the tvOS 15.6 update rolled out, the Apple TV remote is no longer able to control volume, as reported by some users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8).

Affected Apple TV owners immediately took to the community forum to report about the same. We’ve added a few reports below for reference:

My Apple TV remote volume stops working every 1 – 2 months. The rest of the buttons work. It is only volume. This is incredibly frustrating and I have to trouble shoot and reset/relearn the remote every time. Anyone else having this problem? Source

Connected the soundbar to TCL 8 series tv and now Apple TV will not control volume. I have tried learning a new remote in Apple TV settings but still no luck. Any tips or experiences? Source

Owing to the tvOS 15.6 update, the Apple TV remote volume control has now become absolutely unusable for some. It doesn’t work or follow the ‘volume up or down’ command.

In some cases, it works after pressing the button multiple times. In other cases, the volume button doesn’t work at all.

Apple support team hasn’t addressed the remote volume control glitch yet. However, a user on Reddit managed to figure out a potential workaround.

You can also check out the workaround in video format below:

So, if you press the home button and volume button simultaneously, you might have a chance that your Apple TV remote starts adjusting volume again.

Nevertheless, we’ll keep an eye on the developments about the Apple TV remote volume control issue and update the article accordingly.
