The dynamic nature of the UK consumer and a streaming environment among the most diverse in the world has led to near universal adoption, according to the Head of Entertainment Media at Futuresource.
Speaking at the DTG Summit in London, David Sidebottom said close to 94% of the UK population had signed up to one or more streaming services.
Some of the biggest growth in the last 12 months has come from the adoption advertising supported services (AVOD) from 12% a year ago to 25% today.
However, despite the enthusiasm for streaming 71 per cent of UK consumers agree it’s important everyone has access to free national television. This falls to 54% among 16 to 24s.
Sidebottom believes that while Generation X is hooked on streaming now, this may change in the future. “As they get older they will make lifestyle changes and we would expect in the medium term the TV a set will still be important to them,” he said.
A new question on energy efficiency, asked for the first time this year, reports 39% regard it as important. “It’s at the forefront of consumers minds and don’t believe we’ll see the full impact until the end of the year,” said Sidebottom. “Hopefully it will help educate consumers on the importance of energy efficiency.”
