BEN AFFLECK and JENNIFER LOPEZ took Ben’s 10-year-old son Samuel with them to a luxury car rental dealership in L.A. and things got a bit . . . bumpy. Ben let Samuel jump into the driver’s seat of a yellow Lamborghini with the engine running. Well, the kid put the car in reverse and bumped into the front wheel and fender of a parked BMW.
An employee said there was no accident, and the cars were just parked too close together, but Ben and Samuel’s reactions say otherwise. At least everyone is okay and no one is in trouble. There are a bunch of photos online for you to see and you can be the judge (LINK)
Do you know what a Gay-Awakening is? It’s pretty much the moment that people realize they are gay. ANDERSON COOPER had his moment when he was only 11 years old. It happened when he saw RICHARD GERE in a play called “Bent” on Broadway in 1979. Anderson said his mom’s two gay friends took him to see the show. ((audio)) Cooper said he had his Playbill and wanted to get Gere to autograph it, but he was too [distracted], he just couldn’t stop staring his chest. But Anderson did finally get that Playbill signed . . . 10 years ago. He interviewed Richard and told him the whole story. He was, quote, “very tickled with it.”
HENRY WINKLER has become a DANCING MACHINE on TikTok thanks to his six grandkids. BUT he has one important rule: NO F-WORDS. Henry said, quote, “I am only a TikTok star because my granddaughter India said, ‘Papa, you have to make a video’ . . . We threw a lot of songs out because I said, ‘I cannot have the [F-word] in the music.'” He said he doesn’t have a lot of requests, but that was one of them. He’s overdue to give us another dancing TikTok with his grandkids. He hasn’t posted one since January 1st! On the blog you can see a link to Winkler getting down. (LINK)
JOHN WILLIAMS is ready to retire from scoring films after he’s done with “Indiana Jones 5”. And quite honestly, he’s earned it . . . he IS 90 years old. He says, quote, “At the moment I’m working on ‘Indiana Jones 5’, which Harrison Ford . . . who’s quite a bit younger than I am . . . I think has announced will be his last film, so, I thought: If Harrison can do it, then perhaps I can, also.” Now to be clear, Harrison HAS NOT made a public announcement about Indy being his last film. And also to be clear, John isn’t retiring completely from music. He’s currently working with pianist Emanuel Ax on an album. John has a LONG list of movies he’s scored like the “Star Wars” saga, “Jaws”, the first two “Jurassic Park” movies, the first three “Harry Potter” movies, “Superman”, “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”, and the first two “Home Alone” movies. He’s the second-most nominated person in Oscar history with 52. (Walt Disney is first, with 59.) He’s won five Oscars, four Golden Globes, and 25 Emmys.
Speaking of Star Wars — Your small screen is headed to the Dark Side. Star Wars and LG have joined forces on a special edition 65-inch television (LINK) that channels Darth Vader — but it’ll cost fans a pretty big chunk of nerd bucks. The electronics company has reimagined its cinematic TV with touches inspired by the former Jedi, from the power-up sound of his mask-filtered breathing to the lightsaber-equipped magic remote control. The screen’s Gallery Mode (which turns the TV into a digital canvas) features exclusive Star Wars art such as original storyboards and illustrations that give a behind-the-scenes look of the films, movie posters, film scenes and more imagery that showcases Anakin Skywalker’s journey from padawan to Lord V. There were only a few hundred of these made and it’ll cost you $3000 if you’re interested.
People are losing their minds over PAUL MCCARTNEY’s headlining set at the Glastonbury Festival in the U.K. this weekend. 80-year-old Paul played 38 songs over THREE HOURS, and had three major guest stars: DAVE GROHL, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, and . . . JOHN LENNON. Grohl came out and joined Paul on “I Saw Her Standing There” and “Band on the Run”. Then Bruce hit the stage, and they sang HIS hit “Glory Days”, followed by the BEATLES classic “I Wanna Be Your Man”. Possibly the true highlight of the show was a virtual duet with Lennon on “I’ve Got a Feeling” . . . which he’s also been doing on tour. The only thing some people were less than enthusiastic about was a virtual appearance by JOHNNY DEPP. When Paul played his 2012 song “My Valentine”, clips from the video aired, featuring Depp and NATALIE PORTMAN.
One of the more fun package tours of 2022 for ’90s alt-rock fans has Barenaked Ladies hitting the road with Gin Blossoms and Toad the Wet Sprocket. And if getting all three bands on one bill isn’t quite enough, imagine getting all three bands on one song. That’s been happening, as Barenaked Ladies recently closed out their set forming a giant supergroup to cover one of the ’80s most iconic supergroups. Fittingly, the “new supergroup” took on the Traveling Wilburys’ 1988 classic, “Handle With Care,” which featured legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame musicians George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne. The video of the performance is on the blog. (VIDEO)
Sunday’s shocker at the BET Awards was an appearance by Kanye West. ‘Ye was there to help award Sean “Diddy” Combs with the Lifetime Achievement Award, but of course, West stole the moment. As part of a long speech, Kanye said, “How do we crown our kings? How do we appreciate our kings? I go to him for advice to this day. He inspires so many of my choices, so many of my life choices. My wife choices.” The crowd groaned as Ye referred to Kim Kardashian. He added, “Thanks for that Puff.” ‘Ye continued, “You know, I took a little hiatus. I said, I just want to declare myself legally dead for a year. I just want to be off the grid and Puff is pretty persistent, but I had to think, bro, it’s like, people get amnesia. Like I should never have Puff have to ever call more than one time. Any of us in this room if Puff ever need us, we need to jump and be there. This man has been through [and] survived a lot of stuff and broke down a lot of doors so we can be standing … he broke down so many doors of classism, taste, swag. Puff, if I never told you I love you, you’re my brother.”
On Saturday, a posthumous release from DMX called “Know What I Am” was dropped. The song was not authorized by his estate. Matthew “M80” Markoff, who worked closely with X before his death, had some things to say about the song and the people who released it. Markoff told HIPHOPDX, “XRay Records took vocals that were never intended to be released from the The Redemption of the Beast sessions circa 2014, repurposed the production to some ridiculous s**t rock soundscape.” He continued, “The owner of the label even had the nerve to give himself a writer’s credit on this attempt to sway loyal DMX fans who would kill to have and hear some authorized quality DMX music at their disposal.”
Ever want to know what’s it’s like to live like Dolly for a night or two? There’s an unreleased episode of The Office called “Pet Day” currently sitting in Rainn Wilson’s desk drawer, according to the actor himself. Wilson, who played Dwight Schrute, had a sit down interview with People Magazine and said QUOTE: “Recently, I uncovered a lost Office episode — not making this up — called ‘Pet Day.’ We did a table read of it early on, I think in the first season, but it didn’t make the cut. No one has it.” Wilson says the unfilmed episode is about Dunder Mifflin celebrating Take Your Pet to Work Day. “I think Angela brings in cats, obviously,” shared
Wilson, “But everyone brings their pet to work, and Dwight brings in his hybrid wolf.” He said that the episode kind of went forgotten about until he recently found it in his desk. Last week we talked about how Steve-O admits that Jackass was a bad influence on kids…And today…we have news on another Jackass star…and its not for great reasons. Bam Margera is missing – again – from the Florida rehab facility he bolted from two weeks ago. During his first disappearance, the rehab facility’s manager reported Bam missing on June 13th. The manager says Bam told him he was unhappy with the place and their services so he left. According to the manager, Bam was there under a court order, and the staff was concerned he seemed to be leaving without authorization. Cops and a crisis intervention team eventually located Margera at a nearby hotel on June 15th. He volunteered to return to the rehab facility and was escorted there. Now, Bam has gone missing again. He was last spotted Saturday evening after he left the facility without permission. Cops are currently searching for him.
A king of 1980s nightlife, Mark Fleischman hung with the stars including….Keith Richards, Rick James and John Belushi. He owned the last nightclub incarnation of Studio 54, and, by his own admission, enjoyed more than his fair share of illicit substances. Threesomes were commonplace, as was boozing and coking it up (LINK) with Robin Williams and being elbow to elbow with many other stars. Come July 13, however, Fleischman will drop his final drug: a lethal dose of barbiturates. With the assistance of the Swiss non-profit group, Mark, who is 82, will commit legal suicide. He said QUOTE: “I can’t walk, my speech is f-ed up and I can’t do anything for myself. My wife helps me get into bed and I can’t dress or put on my shoes. I am taking a gentle way out. It is the easiest way out for me.” Fleischman, who lives in Cali said that neurologists have been unable to diagnose his condition that began in 2016 when suddenly his left leg began dragging. The organization will provide Fleischman with his life-ending medication and a place in which to consume it.
And finally – in honor of the 2022 season wrapping up last night…I went to Ranker and I pulled the TOP 10 HOCKEY MOVIES of ALL TIME. Let’s see how many you can get…
Former Cardinal Jim Edmonds is 52.
Director J.J. Abrams is 56.
Lorrie Morgan is 63. Country singer.
Fashion designer Vera Wang is 73
Today’s birthday girl has been in 420 fine films, including:
Victoria Sin is 43 years old!
Brendan Donovan, Paul Goldschmidt and Juan Yepez all homered off the Cubs’ Alec Mills in the third inning– which fun fact the Cardinals hadn’t hit three homers in an inning since July 21 of last year in Chicago—making the score at that point 5-0. But our starter, Jack Flaherty only threw 49 pitches before being yanked out of the game after only 2 innings because of a “dead arm” which is what he told the Cardinals staff. So with some middle relievers and Memphis call-ups the Cards struggled to hold anything together on defense and lost to the Chicago Cubs 6-5 in extra innings. We should find out today what doctors say about Flaherty and how long he may be out again. Wainwright starts tonight against Miami at Busch stadium at 6:45pm.
After their loss, the Tampa Bay Lightning left the ice, and for some reason, ABC/ESPN thought it would be a good idea to do a camera shot of them entering their tunnel. Guys were slamming hockey sticks down and using strong language. We’ve bleeped it, but why would they possibly run the audio on live TV? AUDIO
There is not a lot that Shaquille O’Neal doesn’t own these days, but he could be making another major addition to his business portfolio. The retired Hall of Fame center had ex-Orlando Magic teammate Dennis Scott as a guest this week on “The Big Podcast with Shaq.” In the episode, O’Neal expressed interest in purchasing the Magic together with Scott. “Listen we still run that franchise,” said O’Neal, per Sports Illustrated (LINK). “If they wanna sell it to us, DeVos family, we’re ready to go right now,”
“This message go out to the DeVos family,” O’Neal went on. “If you’re ready to sell Orlando Magic, sell it to somebody who’s gonna take it to the next level. That’s us. D-Scott and then, D-Scott can pick everybody else. Smart people combined with common sense people and people that’s been there before. You can’t go wrong.”
O’Neal, who is worth an estimated $400 million, was drafted by Orlando in 1992 and played the first four years of his career with them. While O’Neal’s departure in 1996 was a contentious one, he kept a positive relationship with the DeVos family over the decades. O’Neal has even said in recent years that he regrets not winning Orlando a championship before Rich DeVos died and that he would have stayed with the Magic if he could do it all over again. Previously a minority stakeholder in the Sacramento Kings, O’Neal has a bit of experience in NBA ownership. But the DeVos family has owned the Magic for over three decades, and it might require something in the ballpark of the Utah Jazz’s purchase price (sold for $1.6 billion in 2020) or the Minnesota Timberwolves’ purchase price (sold for $1.5 billion in 2021) to buy them out. Still, O’Neal once tried to get involved with the Magic in a different way (LINK), and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Shaq mount an ownership bid.
The sons of SHAQUILLE O’NEAL and SCOTTIE PIPPEN didn’t get chosen in the NBA Draft, but that’s okay . . . because the Lakers just signed both of them.
SHAREEF O’NEAL signed on to play for the Lakers’ NBA Summer League team.
SCOTTIE PIPPEN JR. signed what’s called a two-way contract (LINK) . . . which means he’ll spend most of his time playing in the NBA-G League, but can be called up to the main roster for up to 45 games a season. (TMZ)
Reports have indicated that the NFL is seeking a significant suspension for Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. A new report has indicated just how long that suspension might be. The NFL is pushing for an indefinite suspension for Watson, lasting a minimum of one season, according to a report. The league is expected to hand down discipline soon, perhaps as soon as the week of July 4.
Watson will not accept such a suspension without a fight. The report states that both he and the NFLPA are preparing to “vigorously fight” against that sort of suspension.
The league believes it has “damning” evidence against Watson stemming from 24 civil lawsuits and other accusers. The NFL is specifically focused on five cases that it feels have particularly strong evidence. The league wants to hand down essentially the stiffest possible ban, and wish to make it indefinite in case further revelations surface. However, the baseline of one year is the minimum the league is reportedly prepared to accept.
Watson and the NFL had been in talks over a discipline settlement, but those talks fell apart over the length of a suspension (LINK). If the league won’t take less than a one-year suspension, those discussions probably did not get far.
Tempers boiled over Sunday afternoon in Anaheim, which resulted in a benches-clearing brawl during the second inning of the Angels’ game against the Seattle Mariners. Things got so crazy that at one point, a full crate of sunflower seeds were launched out onto the field.
In the top of the second inning, Angels pitcher Andrew Wantz drilled Mariners right fielder Jesse Winker in his leg with a pitch. That sent Winker off, who kept trying to get to Wantz before he was joined on the field by both dugouts and bullpens as a brawl broke out. We have some audio which is always fun (LINK)
