A little current is pumped into the jack for pinout and impedance testing. The Axon 7 had a manual switch but their marketing screwed it by saying it was a high quality switch. Putting in in "high quality" mode with 30 Ohm headphones sounded bad because that was actually the high impedance amp. It worked great for car audio hookups.

Totally agree with some of the comments here, the irony of a phone maker that releases phones with no jacks, is now releasing wired earphones. OnePlus is reaching out to a market they don't have currently, and call it "diversify". Hahahaha~

Before the removal of the headphone jack, phones could decode the highest quality audiophile formats such as DSD256 or 352.8khz audio, and you wouldn't need a dongle draining the battery even when plugged in but not in use. 3.5mm is the most universal connector.

I never faced any problem plus you can use it with any laptop. yes 3.5mm isnt that bad but i would like to see wired usb c earphones with anc. it would be so cool for gaming, daily listening routine. no worries about battery life and latency. but still takes charge on your phone.
