Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin has finally made its debut on HBO Max. The anticipated Pretty Little Liars spin-off series drops viewers into a brand new town with a new group of teen girls being targeted by a serial killer dubbed “A.”
The twist in this show involves an incident that occurred on New Year’s Eve 22 years ago. Our present day quintet have no idea that their mothers are carrying a dark secret, but they’re about to find out in horrific fashion.
In the rundown yet fashionable small town of Rosewood the most exciting thing happening is the upcoming dance where the Spirit Queen will be crowned. But, tragically, Imogene’s life is turned upside down when A arrives on the scene. The first kill is the catalyst for a chain of events that pulls Imogene, Tabby, Faran, Mouse, and Noa into A’s sick twisted game.
Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is rated TV-MA which may come as a surprise for viewers who were expecting a TV-14 rating like its predecessor. However, with the series being on a streamer and not on broadcast, there’s less of a restriction of what they can show. As such, the writing and the visuals skew toward mature content. Here’s what we mean.
This series is bloody. There’s pools of blood on more than one occasion. A suicide opens the show. An animal is tortured. Of course, there’s murder. Strong language is used throughout. Underage drinking is depicted. Bullying is an essential theme of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin so harassment and humiliation are elements to the series. There’s also nudity, intense sequences, and sexual content.
